Latch Key Coming
The YMCA will be starting a Latch Key / Summer Child Care program here on
Monday, June 4 for school age children, ages five through twelve. The Y is
renting two Sunday School rooms for that purpose and will also have some limited
use of the Community Room on days when it is not being used.
The summer child care, which is from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., will become
a latch key program when school starts. The Y is also anticipating beginning
a preschool program in the fall, if there is interest in it.
The cost is $113 for five days a week with a 10% discount for a second child.
The latch key costs will be $55 a week for five days before and after school
care, $33 for mornings only and $35 for afternoons only. During the summer
the children will receive breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Activities will include
positive, active learning times, outdoor and indoor play, organized games,
field trips, and swimming.
The director is Ryan McClenathan. Call the Y at 419-755-2500 to sign up or
simply to express interest, especially in the preschool program.
Lutheran Summer Assembly Mixes Faith and Fun on Lake Erie
The Lutheran Summer Assembly will take place July 7-14 at Lakeside, Ohio.
The theme for the event is Love Your Neighbor. The Summer Assembly relates
to all three synods of the ELCA in Ohio. It provides educational programming
and worship in the morning. The rest of the day is open for recreational activities
available in the resort village of Lakeside and nearby destinations on Lake
Erie.
Dr. Cheryl Peterson is this year’s chaplain. Through an examination of New
Testament passages that highlight the Great Commandment she will explore the
meaning of "loving your neighbor as yourself." Her sermons will
explore how this means bearing the neighbor’s burdens, not showing partiality
to more well-off neighbors, seeking justice for the poor, and not judging
neighbors we deem as "other." All of this flows from knowing the
grace of the God who became our "neighbor" by living with us. The
Rev. Dr. Cheryl Peterson is assistant professor of systematic theology at
Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.
The Adult Study class is Towards Understanding Islam. The religion of Islam
and its adherents are much in the news, yet little understood. What is Islam?
Who are Muslims? The five sessions will begin a journey of understanding this
religion and the beliefs and practices of Muslims, who comprise about one-fifth
of the world’s population. The Rev. Dr. Michael Shelley is the director of
the D.Min. Program and visiting professor of Christian-Muslim Relations at
the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.
The Young Adults will discuss Finding Balance in Your Life in a weekly group
led by Pastor Ernest Hoffman as well as planning various activities for the
week.
The Youth Ministry group will be led by a Band and Christian Education Team
of Lutherans, Fuller Still. (www.fullerstill.com) They will lead a morning
program of recreation, faith building, music and Bible study. They present
a Christian music concert one evening and offer special activities during
week for those who want “to hang.” A youth ministry brochure is available
from Pastor Joe Ertl. (sueertl@aol.com 330-894-7007)
The Children’s Program involves both participation in Lakeside children’s
ministry and some activities unique to the Lutheran Summer Assembly. In addition,
there is a staffed nursery each morning sponsored by the Summer Assembly.
To receive a brochure about the Lutheran Summer Assembly or for more information
contact the Rev. Joe Ertl (sueertl@aol.com, 330-894-7007).

Do You Have the Gift of Working With Wood?
Has God given you the gift of the ability to work with wood? There are several
small wood working projects desired by the church, such as wooden collection
boxes and children’s coat racks. All materials would be provided. Please contact
the church office at 419-886-3521 for details.
Be a Pray-er Anyone?
Every Sunday during worship somebody is in the library praying for the worship
service, current events, requests on the golden rod sheets, and, most of all,
for the Pastor. You can sign up alone or do it with a partner if you wish.
If you would like to be a pray-er at either the contemporary service or the
traditional service please contact Cindy Beckel at 419-886-4582 or call the
church office at 419-886-3521.
Sermon Titles Needed!
Do you have a life lesson, characteristic, idea, or scripture that you would
like to be the basis for a sermon? Then we want YOU! That's right, YOU - no
age limit - to come and help develop the teaching portion of the third worship
service. The first meeting will be held Thursday May 24th at 7 p.m. in the
Library at St. Paul's. If you have any questions about what it will entail,
please contact Diane Howard at either 419-529-8285 or 1ladydi@embarqmail.com.
Library News
Spring has arrived and so have many new selections in the Library. Stop
by and grab a book to read while you soak up the sun and have a refreshing
drink. Grab a CD to listen to while you garden or wash your car. Check out
a movie to watch after a day of relaxing golf. Whatever your fancy the library
has many selections to choose from. We are buying and receiving more every
month from the generous donations the ministry body has made. Also the library
team is taking requests, so you may submit any of your requests that you may
have via the bulletin board. But most of all we hope you will enjoy some of
the beautiful weather coming our way this spring.
Sincerely,
The Library Team
